Full Membership requirements:
- Be a Therapeutic Massage Therapist, residing in South Africa
- Registration with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA)
- Adherence to The Code of Ethics, Code of Practice, Conditions of Membership and Constitution of the Association
Yes, TMT students are encouraged to join MTASA.
Student membership requirements:
- Be a Therapeutic Massage Therapy Learner resident in South Africa, currently completing the Diploma in Therapeutic Massage Therapy
- Registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa
- Adherence to the Code of Ethics, Conditions of Membership and Constitution of the Association
Associate Membership requirements:
- A non-practicing Therapeutic Massage Therapist or Health Professional with an interest in massage therapy but does not practice massage therapy, neither as a hobby nor as a profession
- Adherence to the Code of Ethics, Conditions of Membership and Constitution of the Association
Yes. As a member you earn a minimum of 1 CEU per year and a maximum of 2 CEU’s per CPD cycle.
Yes. Members earn a minimum of 2 CEU’s per AGM attended and a maximum of 4 CEU’s per CPD cycle
To apply for membership you need to complete our application form.
You will also need to provide us with:
- A certified copy of your Council Registration Certificate (FULL MEMBERSHIP)
- Certified copies of all relevant Certificates and/or Diplomas (FULL MEMBERSHIP)
- A letter from your school confirming that you are currently studying Therapeutic Massage Therapy(STUDENT MEMBERSHIP)
- A certified copy of the photograph page of your Identity Document
- Proof of payment of Membership fee

InTouch is MTASA’s digital journal that is publish 3 times per year. Our journal features articles, latest research and helpful information pertaining to our profession.
Members are encouraged to write well-researched or research-reviewed articles, with accompanying reference, for InTouch. Articles submitted for publication can earn 10 CEU’s if they meet all the relevant criteria
Massage SA is our monthly newsletter that goes out to all our members, to keep them informed on latest developments in our profession and up-to-date on all Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshops and talks
Yes. MTASA strives to ensure that our members are given ample opportunities to earn the required 40 CEU’s (2 year CPD cycle) as stipulated by their AHPCSA registration.
MTASA organises CPD events through-out the year including a Conference that coincides with our AGM and other smaller talks and workshop. We endeavour to book both national and international speakers on a variety of massage therapy and health care related topics. Many of these events are held online so they are accessible to all our members around the country and internationally.
